Naruvi Hospitals held a walkathon in Vellore on Sunday to create awareness on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups to prevent stroke.

The event was organised to mark World Stroke Day.

Vellore MLA P. Karthikeyan flagged off the walkathon, in the presence of Mayor Sujatha Anandkumar and Chairman of Naruvi Hospitals G.V. Sampath.

In his address, Mr. Sampath said the increased consumption of fast food; addiction to smoking, drugs and alcohol; high blood pressure; diabetes; cholesterol; and stress were the other important factors that cause stroke. “Observing symptoms and early warning signs is vital to prevent stroke,” he said.

More than 500 volunteers participated in the walkathon, which started at Fort Grounds and ended at Naruvi Hospitals on the Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48).

Vice Chairperson of Naruvi Hospitals Anitha Sampath, Chief Operating Officer Saravanan Raman, and General Manager Nithin Sampath were present on the occasion, a press release said.
