The ruling National Conference (NC) and the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday (November 13, 2025) reacted sharply to a notice issued by the Gurugram police to housing societies, asking them to register Kashmiris and foreigners residing there.

“We are Indians, we don’t need to be treated as foreigners in our own country. This order is both absurd and unfortunate. You cannot club Kashmiris and foreigners in the same category. It not only puts every innocent Kashmiri at risk but also raises serious questions about how citizens of Jammu & Kashmir are being treated elsewhere in India,” NC leader and MLA Tanvir Sadiq said in a post on social media platform X.

While investigation must continue and those responsible for the recent explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in the national capital must be brought to justice, “such orders will only result in unnecessary harassment of innocent Kashmiris across the country and Gurugram, something that must be avoided”, he said.

Urging immediate withdrawal of the order, Mr. Sadiq asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini “to look into this matter and ensure this order is rectified without delay”.

PDP leader Zuhaib Mir, while describing the Red Fort blast as “barbaric and senseless”, said he had received distress calls from Delhi, especially from Kashmiri students. “They were being asked by landlords to vacate their rented accommodations. Xenophobia is taking root once again, and it is frightening to imagine where it might lead if unchecked,” Mr. Mir said.

He appealed to those in power, and above all to the people of the country, to “not alienate or discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion or ethnicity”.

“Do not punish parents for the monstrous actions of misguided sons. The terrorists aim to divide us along religious lines. Let us not hand them that victory,” Mr. Mir said.

A thorough and fair investigation must be carried out, he said, ensuring justice while minimising harm to the innocent. “Only through unity and empathy can we triumph over those who seek to destroy our harmony,” the PDP leader said.
