The Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Unit has destroyed 1,835 kg of mephedrone and 341 kg of other chemical substances seized during a major multi-state crackdown, terming it one of the largest drug disposals carried out ahead of trial.
According to a press release issued on November 15, the seizures were made from multiple locations across Maharashtra and Delhi, leading to the arrest of 16 people, including foreign nationals. Investigators said the operation helped dismantle a tightly knit drug syndicate with international links, uncovering networks involved in the large-scale production, distribution, and financing of narcotics.
To oversee the disposal, a High-Level Drug Disposal Committee (HLDDC) was constituted in line with Supreme Court guidelines. The committee included the Deputy Director General (South-West Region) of the NCB, the Additional Director of the Mumbai Zonal Unit, and the Additional Commissioner of Pune Police.
After completing all legal procedures, the seized mephedrone and other substances were incinerated on November 14, 2025, at MEPL in Ranjangaon, Pune, in the presence of the committee members.
The NCB said the massive disposal highlights its ongoing commitment to “dismantling organised drug syndicates" and combating traffickers who “fuel the narcotics ecosystem." The agency reaffirmed its goal of contributing to a “Nasha Mukt Bharat by 2047."
The bureau added that it continues to intensify operations against interstate and international drug networks, targeting both trafficking routes and financial linkages to create a drug-free society.
