NDA resolved to unseat DMK from power in 2026: Vasan

Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan, on Sunday (September 14,2025) said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, is resolved to unseat the DMK from power in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the party’s meeting in Chennai, Mr. Vasan accused the ruling DMK of failing to fulfil the poll promises it had made in the runup to the 2021 Assembly elections. He also said that over the past four years, the DMK government had increased the financial burden on the people.

Responding to a question on the possible expansion of the NDA in the coming months, Mr. Vasan said many political parties in the State were yet to announce their stand on contesting the elections next year. He expressed confidence that parties seeking an end to the DMK regime would join the NDA. According to him, the internal issues in the AIADMK were temporary in nature and would be resolved soon.

On a question about the exit of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) led by T.T.V. Dhinakaran from the NDA, and the latter’s criticism of BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran, the TMC (M) leader said: “The BJP has witnessed steady growth in Tamil Nadu in recent years. Unable to accept this growth, some are trying to create confusion between two leaders [Mr. Nagenthran and former BJP State unit president K. Annamalai].”

Mr. Vasan said his party has been strengthening its organisational structure at the grassroots level to face next year’s elections. He added that the party would organise a series of meetings at the zonal and district levels in the coming months to prepare for the polls.
