Ace Indian javelin throw athlete thanked Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for inviting him and his missus to the Lok Kalyan Marg on Tuesday for an interaction.
Chopra expressed his gratitude to the 75-year-old and lauded the Prime Minister’s strive towards making India a sporting superpower.
“Thank you Shri @narendramodi ji for your time. Your vision and support towards sports is always motivating and encouraging for all us Indians," Chopra said in his update.
Chopra had several standout moments this year, including achieving a personal best by surpassing the 90m mark for the first time in his career.
He gained widespread recognition after winning India’s first Olympic gold in athletics at Tokyo 2020 and followed this with a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Neeraj made history as India’s first senior athletics world champion by securing a gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. This victory came after he earned a silver at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, ending India’s 19-year medal drought at the event. Additionally, the Indian athlete has claimed titles at the Asian Games in 2018 and 2023, the Commonwealth Games in 2018, the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, and the Diamond League.
Chopra set his personal best of 90.23 metres at the Doha Diamond League, which stands as the national record. In October, Neeraj Chopra was honoured with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. The 27-year-old athlete received the insignia at a ceremony in New Delhi in recognition of his exceptional achievements in sports. Although his official appointment to the rank was on April 16, the pipping ceremony took place on October 22.
