 Arun Chauhan wins Dhanbad deputy mayor election; Pledges commitment to development and transparency

Dhanbad: Election for the deputy mayor of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation concluded smoothly on Wednesday, with Arun Chauhan securing the post with the support of 50 councillors, while his rival Menaka Singh managed to get only 5 votes.Chauhan, who is the younger brother of JMM vice-president Harendra Chauhan, enjoyed backing from party members and workers, many of whom were present during the election process. The atmosphere on the collectorate premises was vibrant during the counting of votes. To ensure transparency, the counting of ballots was displayed live on LED screens, allowing councillors and supporters to witness the process.As soon as the final results were declared, jubilant scenes unfolded, with supporters congratulating each other and celebrating Chauhan’s win.

Dhanbad mayor Sanjeev Singh stated that the mandate given by the people would be fulfilled with honesty and transparency. He emphasised that improving sanitation, ensuring better water supply, and addressing road and drainage issues would be the top priorities. He also said that a road map for new development planning would soon be prepared in coordination with the municipal commissioner and deputy commissioner.

Chauhan expressed gratitude to the mayor and supporting councillors, reaffirming his commitment to the city’s development.Ahead of the deputy mayor election, a swearing-in ceremony was held, where newly elected representatives took oath of office and secrecy.Singh was administered the oath by district election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan. All 55 ward councillors also took oath.In a similar ceremony, Chirkunda Nagar Parishad chairperson Sunita Devi was sworn in by deputy development commissioner Sunny Raj. She reaffirmed her commitment to public welfare and overall development. Vijay Yadav chosen as the vice-chairperson of the nagar parishad.
