Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Sunday (June 1, 2025) expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and said the new Director General of Police (DGP) faced a big challenge in controlling crime and establishing the rule of law.
“Due to the dominance of feudal and criminal elements in various States of the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, acts of casteist and communal hatred, violence, injustice, oppression and displacement of people etc. prove that the rule of law is not functioning properly,” wrote Ms. Mayawati on X.
She said that under such circumstances, the new chief of the Uttar Pradesh police faced a big challenge to control crime, establish the rule of law in the State and provide proper relief to the people of all sections of society. The BSP chief asked the State government and the people associated with the ruling party to give cooperation in establishing the rule of law.
The Uttar Pradesh government on May 31 appointed 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajeev Krishna as the new DGP.
Meanwhile, Mr. Krishna met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reiterating his commitment to carry forward the priorities of the State government such as zero tolerance towards crime and corruption, women’s safety, citizen-centric policing and excellence in law and order with full devotion.
