As the probe into the shocking Meghalaya honeymoon murder deepens, a new name —Jitendra Raghuvanshi — has come to light, potentially adding a fresh layer to the ongoing investigation.

Jitendra is allegedly the person whose bank account was used by Sonam Raghuvanshi to make an initial payment to the hired killers of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, on May 23. This financial link has now placed him under the scanner, giving the case a new twist.

Sonam’s brother Govind Raghuvanshi, while speaking to the media on Wednesday, confirmed that Jitendra is their cousin. He further claimed that Sonam’s UPI account was registered in Jitendra’s name, although he did not explain why it wasn’t created under her own name, Hindustan Times reported.

Following this revelation, speculation arose over possible hawala transactions and links to the family’s business dealings. However, Govind refuted these claims, telling The New Indian Express that Jitendra is merely a junior employee in their family-run enterprise. He said Jitendra’s account held the family’s money and was routinely used for regular business transactions.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Police have arrested five people in connection with Raja’s murder—Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and three others: Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. All five were taken into custody and remanded to eight days of police custody on Wednesday. The emergence of Jitendra’s name now raises further questions about the financial trail behind the plot.
