New Pocket Potters titles debut in India, aimed at younger readers

Bloomsbury celebrated the release of Pocket Potter series

This weekend, Bloomsbury India unveiled two new titles in its Pocket Potters series, expanding a line of illustrated companion books designed to introduce younger readers to the world of Harry Potter.Pocket Potters, positioned as compact and accessible guides, explored key moments, memorable quotations and lesser-known details from the series through illustrations and short-form text. The collection was conceived as an entry point for new readers, while also appealing to longtime fans through its visual design and collectible format.It has been 29 years since the first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, and 25 years since the first film arrived on screen in 2001.

The world was introduced to a young wizard who would go on to change publishing, cinema, and popular culture forever, growing into a global phenomenon that has captured the imagination of readers and viewers across generations. Today, the magic of the wizarding world remains as powerful as ever.With seven iconic books published between 1997 and 2007, and eight much loved films released between 2001 and 2011, Harry Potter continues to be one of the most beloved book series in the world.

From FY13–14 to FY25–26, data shows that annual Harry Potter sales in India have grown nearly seven times, with lifetime sales reaching a staggering 3 million plus copies. This reflects the series’ remarkable longevity and its continued appeal among readers of all ages.In recent years, the Harry Potter series has entered a sustained growth phase, recording consistent mid to high year on year increases, including 9.6 percent growth in FY25–26.

Nearly 35 percent of total sales now come from online channels, alongside strong pan India distribution across offline markets. Continued discovery of Book One in the series remains a powerful entry point, driving new reader acquisition year after year.

Special editions such as MinaLima, House Editions, Anniversary Editions, and Illustrated Editions continue to see sustained demand. These editions beyond the original seven book series perform strongly, driven by a robust gifting economy and strong collector interest alongside first time readership.Rahul Srivastava, Managing Director, Bloomsbury India, said, “Harry Potter has been part of childhood, friendship, and imagination for millions of readers in India. The gathering formally marked the Pocket Potters series’ debut in India, underscoring the franchise’s continued resonance in a changing publishing landscape.
