New police subdivision established in Jamshedpur's Mango area to enhance law and order

Ranchi: A high-level committee chaired by chief secretary Alka Tiwari on Monday approved the formation of new police subdivision in Jamshedpur’s Mango area falling in East Singhbhum district.

Officials said that the move is part of the govt’s efforts to further improve law and order in the region. A proposal in this regard was sent by the state home department.During the meeting, the chief secretary instructed DGP Anurag Gupta to assess the needs of all the districts in the state for efficient law and order maintenance to take appropriate action accordingly.The DGP said that the state police would soon prepare comprehensive data on the crime graph, trends, current resources, and necessary actions for each district.

“This would also ensure better allocation of resources for crime prevention," he said.Currently, in East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur is classified as its headquarter, while Patamda is the lone police subdivision. “Now, Mango will be the second subdivision. The move is required due to increase in the area in terms of population, expansion among others, which also necessitated need for focussed policing,” said an official.

Home secretary Vandana Dadel said that there was a need to make Mango a police subdivision to curb crimes related to economic, narcotics, and other types of offences. Gupta added, “Mango police subdivision would be created by carving out areas from the Jamshedpur (headquarters) and Patamda subdivisions, including the upgraded police stations of Mango, Azadnagar, and Olidih OP.”Others who were present during the meeting included secretaries from the state finance, personnel, registration, and land reforms among others.
