The NFL community is reeling from the tragic death of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, who was found dead on Thursday morning in what authorities described as an apparent suicide.

Kneeland, just 24, had been a promising young star for the Cowboys, drafted 56th overall in 2024, and his sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the league. In response, the NFL has taken steps to ensure his memory is honored across all 32 franchises this weekend.According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league issued a memo to every team, requesting that Week 10 games begin with a moment of silence for the late Cowboys player.

“The NFL sent a memo to all teams Friday, asking them to hold a moment of silence Sunday as part of the pre-game ceremonies in memory of the late Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland,” Schefter reported.

Following the moment of silence, every stadium will share a message urging fans to seek help if they’re struggling: “If you or someone you know is struggling or needs emotional support, please call or text 988. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24-7 to help.”

The powerful message serves as both a tribute and a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness.

The Cowboys confirmed the heartbreaking news on November 6, stating, “It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”According to reports, Kneeland texted his family goodbye before taking his own life. Police later found his crashed vehicle on the Dallas Parkway, only minutes from the Cowboys’ facility. The tragedy came just days after one of the most joyful moments of his young career—his first NFL touchdown on Monday Night Football.Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who lost his own brother to suicide, spoke with deep emotion about the loss.

“This is a pain that you don't wish upon anybody,” Prescott said. “You wish none of us had to go through this. You wish Marshawn didn't have to go through what he went through.”As the league gathers to remember Marshawn Kneeland this Sunday, the tributes will not only honor a talented young player but also echo a larger message—one of compassion, connection, and the urgent need to talk about mental health before it’s too late.More NFL coverageAdult site throws $300K at ex-NFL player Matt Kalil after ex-wife’s viral ‘0.01%’ confessionDonald Trump wants Commanders’ new $3.7 billion stadium named after him, White House reacts
