Nine students injured as private school van overturns on railway track in Cuddalore

As many as nine students sustained injuries after the private school van they were travelling in lost control and overturned on a railway track at the Poovanur level crossing near Vriddhachalam on Monday (August 25, 2025).

The police said the private van carrying nine students was heading toward a private school in Vriddhachalam. When the van reached the level crossing at Poovanur, the driver C. Sekar, 45, of Puduvilankulam, reportedly lost control of the vehicle, and dashed it against a pole near the level crossing. In the impact, the vehicle overturned on the railway track.

Nine students, identified as Vasanth, 11, Ananthika, 11, Aswika, 11, Ashwin, 12, Aravind, 13, Nivetha, 11, Jegadeesh, 14, Rahul 15, and Harish, 11, studying in the private school, sustained injuries. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and removed the van from the railway track.

The injured students were rushed to the Vriddhachalam Government Hospital.

The Railway police are investigating the incident.
