Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a centralised kitchen and a new police barracks at Patna Police Lines. He also launched 'Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi' to provide nutritious, affordable meals to 3,000 personnel, creating employment for 120 women. The CM reviewed Phase-2 expansion plans worth Rs 266 crore, emphasizing prompt completion of upcoming projects.
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated a centralised kitchen-cum-dining hall (G+4) and a 700-capacity male constable barracks (G+7) Block-A within the premises of the New Police Line, Patna, by cutting the traditional ribbons and unveiling the plaque.Speaking on the occasion, Nitish said police forces residing at the Patna Police Lines faced considerable difficulty in managing rations, food, and other necessities while performing their duties. “To solve this problem, a 'Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi' is also being launched at the police lines. This will provide nutritious food at affordable rates to approximately 3,000 police personnel residing in the Patna Police Line.
With savings in time and effort, the police personnel will be able to perform their duties better,” he said.“Also, the ‘Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi’ will provide employment to approximately 120 Jeevika didis,” Nitish added.The CM further reviewed the model of proposed projects worth Rs 266 crore for the Phase-2 expansion of the Patna Police Line. During the review, he obtained detailed information about the planned projects from officials.
The Director General of Police (DGP) informed the CM that under Phase-2, construction will include the Sergeant Major quarters (Block-1, 14 flats), male constable barracks (three blocks, 700 beds per block), female constable barracks (one block, 500 beds per block), US quarters (84 flats), LS quarters (28 flats), servant quarters, school building, sewer line, tubular firing range, and auditorium.“Under Phase-1, construction of the administrative building (reserved office), female police barracks (two blocks – 500 beds per block), male constable barracks (three blocks, 700 beds per block), and centralised kitchen and dining hall has been completed, which was inaugurated on Sunday,” the DGP informed.To this, Nitish told the officials that the projects to be constructed under Phase-2 should be completed promptly.Nitish further inspected the centralised kitchen-cum-dining hall (G+4) building. During the inspection, he went to the first floor to see the ‘Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi’ and interacted with the Jeevika didis.It may be noted that ‘Didi Ki Rasoi’ started in 2018 at Sadar Hospital, Hajipur in Vaishali district.
With the state govt’s support, a total of 334 'Didi Ki Rasoi' are now operating across district and sub-divisional hospitals, medical colleges and hospitals, Kalyan residential schools, old age homes, administrative offices, Bihar Police Academy, and all police training centres, including Rajgir.During the inspection of ‘Didi Ki Rasoi’ at the district registration office in Patna, the CM directed it to be renamed ‘Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi’, which has been in use since then.“People are getting affordable nutritious food from ‘Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi’. Also, more than 4,000 Jeevika didis are getting direct employment. Besides this, Jeevika didis of self-help groups supplying rations, vegetables, fruits, etc., are also getting indirect employment. Their numbers are likely to increase further in the future,” a communique issued from the chief minister’s office said.
