The father of 15-year-old Divyanshi, who died in the stampede outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, said there was no first aid and no proper police support at the venue where the tragedy happened.

Divyanshi’s father made the remarks while speaking to news agency PTI. The teenager’s body was taken from Yelahanka, Bengaluru, to their native village in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday for her final rites.

“People pushed in and she fell… First aid was not given properly. We took her in the auto. There was no proper police support," her father said.

The father further alleged that they waited four hours to file the FIR. He also blamed the state government for the incident.

“We waited for four hours for the FIR. It’s the government’s responsibility; for political parties, they (the government) arrange everything but not for such sports events," he added.

The stampede occurred on Wednesday, when lakhs of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium to take part in a felicitation event after the team’s historic IPL victory.

The event turned into a free ticketed celebration inside the stadium. Confusion over passes and limited seating led to massive crowds gathering outside the venue. As the situation spiralled out of control, people surged forward, pushing through barricades and crushing others in the crowd.

In the panic that followed, at least 11 people lost their lives, and over 30 were injured. Divyanshi was one of the youngest victims.

Opposition parties have blamed the Congress-led Karnataka government for poor crowd control and mismanagement.

The Karnataka government has announced Rs 10 lakh in compensation for the families of the deceased and has promised free medical care for the injured.
