Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn has clarified that it has not discussed any new investment with the Tamil Nadu government, contradicting a recent announcement by state Industries Minister TRB Rajaa.
In an official statement, Foxconn acknowledged that it held talks with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office. However, denied discussing any new investments.
“Foxconn’s newly appointed India Representative, Robert Wu, had an exchange with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Office and his team. During the meeting, no new investments were discussed," it said.
The clarification comes a day after Rajaa had announced on social media that Foxconn would invest Rs 15,000 crore in the state and create 14,000 jobs.
The minister reiterated the claim, calling it “100 per cent true" and even slamming political leaders for questioning the investment.
Rajaa said that securing such an investment had taken nearly a year of effort and cautioned against politicising job opportunities in the state.
BJP QUESTIONS TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT
Hours after Foxconn’s clarification, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy questioned how the Chief Minister and Industries Minister could officially endorse an investment that reportedly never took place.
In an X post, Thirupathy wrote, “It is really shocking that Foxconn has denied that they discussed about any new investments in Tamil Nadu during the meeting of the Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin and team."
“It is really unfortunate that the Chief Minister himself tweets praising the Dravida model government in action in bringing investments to the tune of 15,000 Crores and 14,000 job opportunities, but where as no action has taken place with no investments or job opportunities," he added.
“How can a Chief Minister and the Industries Minister officially endorse and issue a statement regarding the investments that never came? Why the fake news? Why should the Chief Minister be a part of disinformation and a blatant falsehood?" he asked.
“Is it not a shame to the state of Tamil Nadu? Dravida model is bigger than Whopper!!!!" he added.
