Kanpur: Mercury climbed once again in Kanpur on Monday, with the maximum temperature touching 39.3 degrees Celsius, stated the weather observatory of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Although the temperature rose by around two degrees Celsius, high humidity levels pushed the heat index to nearly 40- 42 degrees Celsius, making conditions uncomfortable for residents. Moderate north-westerly winds blowing at speeds between 5 and 12.3 km per hour added to the sultry conditions.Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that weather conditions across the Kanpur division- including Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Etawah, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Auraiya- would remain mainly clear experiencing extremely hot and humid weather over the next 48 hours.
The IMD also predicted a slight rise in daytime temperatures in most districts of the division. In Kanpur Nagar district, the sky is expected to remain clear with bright sunshine. The maximum temperature is likely to hover between 39°C and 41°C, while the minimum temperature may remain between 26°C and 27°C. Hot winds are also expected to blow during the afternoon hours.Weather expert Dr S Sunil Pandey of CSA University said that due to atmospheric humidity, temperatures in the Kanpur division are likely to rise gradually over the next day, while sultry and humid conditions will persist. He added that there is virtually no possibility of rainfall and the reappearance of bright sunshine is expected to intensify the heat further.
