No-trust motion against Davorlim sarpanch within hours of election

Margao: A high drama unfolded at the Davorlim Dicarpale panchayat on Thursday, as the newly elected sarpanch faced a no-confidence motion within hours of assuming office.Meniono Joao Colaco, who was elected as sarpanch of the Davorlim Dicarpale panchayat during a meeting held earlier in the day, found his election immediately challenged by a majority of panchayat members.

Significantly, Colaco defeated a candidate known to be backed by BJP’s Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuyekar. Sampada Naik was elected unopposed as deputy sarpanch.In the notice of no-confidence against Colaco, the signatories expressed their lack of confidence in his “leadership and functioning”.
