The Kozhikode district administration has cleared permission for heavy multi-axle vehicles on the Thamarassery Ghat Road that connects Wayanad and Kozhikode districts, where traffic restrictions are still in place in view of the recurring instances of mud slips and falling of rocks.

In a press release on Sunday (August 31, 2025) afternoon, District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh said that that single-lane traffic movement would continue on the road. Police personnel would control the vehicle movement from both sides of the road at regular intervals. The new order came in view of the rain subsiding in recent days.

However, officials said that the restrictions would be re-imposed if there was any change in the weather situation. The ban on tourists at the View Point would continue. People should not stop their vehicles there or venture out, they added.

The road was completely closed to vehicular traffic on August 26 after mud slips and falling of rocks were reported on the ninth hair pin curve. It was partly lifted subsequently to allow single-lane traffic though the restriction on the movement of trucks continued. The latest decision comes after an assessment of the current condition of the road, it is learnt.
