Tasleem Ahmed's bail plea rejected; HC cites severity of charges

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court has rejected the bail application of Tasleem Ahmed, an accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 north-east Delhi riots. The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justice Subramonium Prasad and Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar. The violence in northeast Delhi in February 2020 left at least 53 people dead and around 700 injured.

Ahmed, the owner of a coaching centre, is accused of being part of the larger conspiracy case in relation to the riots. He had sought bail in the case, but the high court declined his request, citing the severity of the charges.(With agency inputs)
