Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday mounted a spirited response to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's controversial prediction that India would soon be "back at the table saying sorry" over its trade ties with Russia.

The Congress MP said India's conduct had been marked by maturity and fairness, insisting that the country has nothing to apologise for, while questioning why New Delhi was being singled out when other nations were engaging in far larger transactions with Moscow.

"I don't think we have anything to say sorry about at all. India has behaved with a great deal of maturity on all of this," Tharoor said, firmly rejecting Lutnick's claim.
