NRI arrested on charge of cheating woman

A 29-year-old non-resident Indian was arrested by the SR Nagar police for allegedly cheating a woman from Hyderabad, nearly 17 months after she filed a complaint.

The accused, V. Shashank, was taken into custody at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on May 25 after officials received a tip-off about his return to India.

According to the complainant, the two were in a live-in relationship before Shashank left for the United Kingdom, claiming he was going to pursue higher studies. He allegedly promised to return and marry her, but once abroad, he stopped being in touch with her.

The woman filed a complaint in December 2023, following which a case was registered and a lookout notice was issued against Shashank.

Police said further investigation is ongoing.
