The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday shared a significant success in the crackdown against Naxalism in the country. As per the ministry, the number of districts severely affected by Naxalism has been reduced from six to three. Currently, Bijapur, Sukma, and Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh are the most affected regions by Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
Government’s statement came after the surrender of 88 members of CPI (Maoist) in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, marking another success in the anti-Naxal campaign.
“In a significant step towards the Modi government’s goal of creating a Naxal-free Bharat, the number of districts most impacted by Naxalism has decreased from six to three," the ministry stated.

MHA further said that the count of LWE-affected districts has also been further reduced from 18 to just 11. Government is aiming for complete eradication of the Naxal threat by 31 March 2026.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, operational successes have surpassed all previous records this year, with 312 LWE cadres eliminated, including CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and 8 other Politburo/Central Committee Members," the MHA reported.A total of 836 LWE cadres have been arrested, and 1,639 have surrendered and joined the mainstream. Among the surrendered Naxalites are a Politburo Member and a Central Committee Member.
The Modi government has achieved “unprecedented success" in tackling the Naxal issue through the rigorous implementation of the National Action Plan and Policy, which employs a multi-faceted approach, as per the statement.
The action plan includes precise intelligence-based and people-friendly counter-LWE operations.
“These steps were accompanied by swift domination of areas with security vacuum, targeting of top leaders as well as over ground workers, countering the nefarious ideology, rapid development of infrastructure and saturation of welfare schemes, choking of finances, enhanced coordination between states and centre governments and accelerated investigation and prosecution of Maoist related cases," MHA’s statement read.
