One more student of Kannadi school found dead

A Class X student of Kannadi Higher Secondary School in Palakkad was found dead in his house at Vilayannur on Thursday. The boy, who had not been attending school for two days, was found hanging in his room.

A Class IX boy of the same school had ended his life in a similar manner a month ago, stirring a series of protests which led to the suspension of his class teacher and school headteacher. His family had alleged that the teachers were responsible for his death. The boy’s suicide had invited widespread attention and the intervention of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The Commission, during its visit to the school two weeks ago, had ordered counselling for all students of the deceased child’s class.

The police said they were investigating the cases.
