Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi this week said Operation Sindoor remains ongoing, with Indian forces closely monitoring every move by the enemy even as the overall security situation remains under control.

Speaking at an investiture ceremony at the South Western Command in Jaipur on Wednesday, Dwivedi said the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force jointly struck nine terrorist camps and infrastructure targets in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, completing the operation with precision in just 22 minutes, according to PTI.

Dwivedi said the operation followed the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, after which a “clear decision" was taken at the highest level to respond decisively.

“Within 88 hours, our precision, professionalism and operational superiority forced Pakistan to agree to a ceasefire," he said, calling it a demonstration of India’s capability to protect national sovereignty and interests.

The Army chief said global armed conflicts have increased sharply in both number and intensity over the past year, underscoring the need for constant preparedness.

“Only those nations that are prepared succeed," he said.

On border security, Dwivedi said the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains stable, though sustained vigilance is essential. He said troop deployment is balanced and robust, while capacity building and infrastructure development are progressing under a whole-of-nation approach.

Dwivedi said the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is sensitive but firmly under control, adding that development-led initiatives have pushed terrorist recruitment to its lowest-ever levels. He cited the peaceful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Yatra as a sign of growing confidence and normalcy.

Referring to the Northeast, the Army chief said the security situation, particularly in Manipur, has improved significantly due to proactive government measures and decisive action by security forces.

Cultural events such as the Shirui Lily festival, the resumption of the Durand Cup, and the restoration of the Suspension of Operations agreement were cited as indicators of stabilisation.

Dwivedi said future wars cannot be won by a single force alone and require a coordinated national effort. He said the Army is accelerating modernisation, operational preparedness and organisational efficiency in line with the Prime Minister’s emphasis on jointness, self-reliance and innovation.

He added that steps are being taken to strengthen force structures, including the formation of the Rudra Brigade, Bhairav Battalion and Shaktiban Regiment.
