New high-resolution satellite imagery unveiled extensive damage at Pakistan’s Murid air base, including a notable three-meter-wide crater just 30 meters from a suspected underground facility of the Pakistan Air Force. The images showed damage to the rooftop of a structure adjacent to unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hangars. 3-Meter-Wide Munition Impact Crater Seen

Damien Symon, a geospatial intelligence researcher with Intel Lab, known for his analysis of satellite imagery in monitoring military and infrastructure developments, provided further insight. He said, as per NDTV, “The strike is visible at the most guarded complex within Murid Airbase. The approximately three-meter-wide munition impact crater is just 30 meters north of one of the two entrances to a likely underground facility."

Murid Airbase Damaged Despite Heavy Protection

Damien Symon further elaborated on the significance of the damaged area, noting, “This complex is heavily protected with double fencing, its own watchtowers, and access control, indicating its high-value nature as a target. The earth-protected entrances suggest this site might serve as storage for special equipment or as a hardened operational shelter for personnel, capable of withstanding heavy bombardment."

Roof Collapsed Inwards

Damien Symon noted that a portion of the building’s roof collapsed inwards, with external walls also showing signs of deterioration, likely from impact. The geospatial intelligence researcher suggested such a strike could have caused damage to the upper floors as well.

Murid Airbase And Its Importance For Pakistan

The Murid air base, located in Pakistan’s Chakwal district, is a significant operational flying base for the Pakistan Air Force, situated approximately 150 kilometers from the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Its strategic importance has grown considerably due to its role as a key hub for Pakistan’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) fleet. The base is known to house various drones, including locally developed models like the GIDS Shahpar and NESCOM Burraq, as well as imported platforms such as the Chinese Chengdu Wing Loong II and the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci.

Murid air base also plays a crucial supporting role for other vital Pakistan Air Force installations, including the Sargodha air base and the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi.
