A total of 416 motorists were caught for drunk driving during a weekend enforcement drive conducted by the Cyberabad Traffic Police between September 29 and October 4.
According to official data, two-wheelers accounted for the majority of offences with 321 cases, followed by 80 four-wheelers, 13 three-wheelers, and 2 heavy vehicles. Most of the offenders were in the age group of 31 to 40 years with 156 cases, followed closely by 151 in the 21 to 30 age group.
Police said all offenders would be produced before the court. In the same week, 51 cases were disposed of, with 45 people fined and six sentenced to jail — four for one day and two for two days. Additionally, five people were assigned social service as part of their punishment.
Officials reminded motorists that drunk driving remains a serious offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and that anyone driving under the influence and causing a fatal accident will be booked under Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
