Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez announced that 4,500 policemen will be deployed in the French Capital City on the day of the UEFA Champions League Final, slated to be played between PSG and Inter at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
Despite the spectacle being hosted across the border, French authorities saw it fit to up the ante around the Capital City, bidding for their maiden UCL triumph.
The decision comes on the back of a horrendous incident in the English city of Liverpool, where a 53-year-old man rammed into dozens of fans celebrating Liverpool FC’s 20th English top-flight title during the trophy parade on Water Street in Merseyside.
Nunez stated that the traffic around Paris’ best-known landmark, the Arc de Triomphe, will be blocked from midday and streets surrounding the Champs-Élysées boulevard.
“From 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) this Saturday, there will be no more traffic on the Champs-Élysées and in the perpendicular streets," Nunez said.
“Individuals who come solely to commit vandalism and loot businesses, that’s a pattern we’re obviously working to systematically put an end to. That will also be the case on Saturday evening," he added.
“We will obviously be extremely firm. As soon as there is damage, attacks on law enforcement, there will be interventions."
