Zambia striker Patson Daka scored a late goal to give his nation a dramatic draw against Mali at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Monday in the African Cup of Nations encounter between the sides.

Daka went in diving to turn a brilliant ball in from Mathews Banda to give Zambia a point, but strained his neck celebrating the strike. He landed awkwardly on his neck before getting up to celebrate the goal with his teammates.

Daka’s 92nd minute equaliser against Mali was the first ever result-altering goal in the 90th minute or later at the AFCON for Zambia.

The AFCON got underway a day earlier as hosts Morocco opened the CAF showpiece with a commanding 2-0 win over Comoros as Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Khabi got on the scoresheet.

CAF Player of the Year, Achraf Hakimi, who had been nursing an ankle sprin he sustained early in November, presented the accolade he was awarded to adoring fans at the Stade Prince Moulhy Abdallah ahead of the curtain-raiser.
