Peace not possible without resettlement of IDPs: Inner Manipur MP Akoijam

Imphal: Inner Manipur MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Saturday said there can never be complete peace and normalcy in Manipur without the dignified resettlement of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original homes.The Congress MP criticised political leaders, who are claiming the return of peace and normalcy in Manipur, and accused them of misleading the people and trying to normalise the state’s abnormal situation.Akoijam, in a video message posted on Facebook, said thousands of people are still languishing in the relief camps. Certain political leaders claiming the return of peace in such a situation are just trying to push under the carpet the plights of the IDPs, he said.

He reiterated that the IDPs must be resettled to their original places by ensuring their rights and dignity as human beings.He went on to say thousands of soldiers were sent in to Manipur just a day after violence erupted on May 3, 2023, yet the people were allowed to kill each other.He demanded that accountability be fixed for the violence that has destroyed the lives of thousands in the state.
