Congress MP from Peddapalli, Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, met Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Monday, demanding the establishment of a semiconductor manufacturing unit in the Peddapalli-Mancherial region of Telangana.
Finding fault with the Centre’s decision to set to up a semiconductor manufacturing facility — Advanced System in Package Technologies Private Limited (ASIP) — in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, he said, “Instead of prioritising merit and regional capability, the Union government chose politics over progress by shifting the semiconductor project to Andhra Pradesh.”
He submitted a detailed representation highlighting the region’s strategic advantages. He pointed out that the region offers ample water resources from the Godavari, robust industrial infrastructure with units like RFCL, SCCL and NTPC, and a skilled workforce capable of supporting high-tech projects.
The MP argued that setting up the unit in Peddapalli-Mancherial would generate large-scale employment, curb unemployment in the region, and enable skilled youth to contribute to national growth.
Telangana leaders, including Ministers, however, also accused the Centre of discrimination, claiming the State had offered land, subsidies and investor commitments, only to see the project diverted to Andhra Pradesh, which reportedly had no land allocated for it at the time. Vamsi also cited past instances, such as Micron’s relocation to Gujarat, as evidence of a pattern of bias against Telangana.
