Pitru Paksha 2025: Significance

People worship their ancestors with great fervor during Pitru Paksha, which is regarded as the most holy and pious time of the year. In Hinduism, Pitru Paksha is a very important religious and spiritual occasion when people pray for their departed loved ones. The soul must also achieve moksha, or tranquility, even though a burial only places the body in eternal rest.

The deceased's eldest son or other male relative typically performs the Shraddha ritual.

It is believed that when Shraddha is performed correctly, the deceased's soul descends to bless his loved ones. During the Shraddha Paksha, it is deemed unlucky to get married or purchase jewels, real estate, or other items. This time period is good for performing number of puja ceremonies, daan, and the preparation of certain dishes that are loved by deceased ones.
