In the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), fighters win titles and must keep them by fighting tough challengers. Champions like Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson, and Anderson Silva have made history by holding their titles for a long time. Defending a title shows how strong and skilled a fighter is against the best in their group.

Jon Jones

Jon Jones is the UFC’s best champion, defending his light heavyweight title 13 times, making him nearly impossible to beat. He won the title in 2011 at UFC 128 by beating Shogun Rua, becoming the youngest champion at 23. Jones defeated big names like Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machida, and Daniel Cormier, never losing a title fight. He holds records for the most wins and longest win streak in the 205-pound group. Jones left the title in 2020 to try the heavyweight division.

Demetrious Johnson

Demetrius Johnson, known as Mighty Mouse, was defending his flyweight title on 11 occasions, thus demonstrating that he was among the best fighters in UFC. UFC 152 in 2012 saw him win the title over a close match with Joseph Benavidez. Johnson has conquered great fighters such as John Dodson, Henry Cejudo, and Kyoji Horiguchi with his quick steps and clever strategies. Cejudo defeated him in UFC 227 in 2018, marking the end of his reign.

Johnson subsequently became a part of ONE Championship and was victorious in their Flyweight Grand Prix.

Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva, the middleweight champion with ten defenses, was known as the Spider, and thrilled the crowd with his cool style. In 2006, at UFC 64, he defeated Rich Franklin to win the title. Silva has won over fighters such as Nate Marquardt, Dan Henderson, and Chael Sonnen and he has won nine title fights by knockout or submission. He competed 13 times in the 185-pound division, which was a record. He lost his reign in 2013 when Chris Weidman knocked him out at UFC 162. It was very entertaining to watch Silva have his fights as he made unique moves and was bold in his style. He was a star because he was capable of fighting big.

Georges St-Pierre

The biggest MMA hero in Canada, Georges St-Pierre, or GSP, has defended his welterweight title on nine occasions. In 2007, he lost the title to Matt Serra, but he regained it in 2008 with a quick victory. St-Pierre defeated top fighters like Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, and Nick Diaz, showcasing his diverse capabilities. In 2013, he relinquished the title but returned in 2017 and won the middleweight title over Michael Bisping.
