In view of the rising number of tourists in Mussoorie, the authorities have now made it mandatory for travellers and accommodation providers to register their details on a dedicated portal developed by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department at the time of check-ins, reported PTI.
Speaking about the same, District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey announced that the same will come into effect starting from Wednesday. Under the regulation, all hotels, guest houses, homestays, and other accommodations should first register on the portal themselves and then enter the details of all incoming guests during check-in.
The move is intended to curb the increasing issues of overcrowding and traffic congestion in the popular hill station, which has experienced a significant surge in tourist visits between 2022 and 2024. “This initiative will offer real-time insights into tourist footfall," Pandey said.
Facility owners have been directed to strictly adhere to the new guidelines. This step comes in response to a May directive from the National Green Tribunal, which called on the state government to closely monitor tourist influx and regularly submit data from the region.
The registration needs to be done on the official website of the tourism department, according to the New Indian Express.
How To Do Registration?
-Tourists must fill out an online form with their name, contact details, vehicle number, accommodation details, and travel dates.
-Domestic visitors will receive a one-time password (OTP) on their mobile number, while international tourists will receive the OTP via email.
-After successful verification, a QR code will be generated, which must be shown at entry checkpoints.
The accommodation providers also need to register themselves on the online portal. Here’s how to do it.
-Property owners must register their establishments on the official tourism website.
-They are required to submit the owner’s name and contact information.
-The type of accommodation offered must be clearly mentioned (e.g., hotel, homestay, guesthouse).
-Details such as the property name, number of rooms, and maximum guest capacity must be provided.
-Immediately after registration, owners or caretakers must begin recording guest check-in details to enable real-time monitoring of tourist arrivals in the area.
