Social worker Santoshirani Patil and BJP Mahila Morcha Sedam taluk president Shailaja Hittal have demanded the immediate removal of a liquor shop located near the bus stand in Karchkhed village in Sedam taluk in Kalaburagi district and the installation of CCTV cameras in the area, alleging that the situation had become unsafe for women, students and daily commuters.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Ms. Patil said the liquor outlet, situated on the main road close to the bus stand, was causing inconvenience and fear among the public. She alleged that the people consuming alcohol were frequently occupying the bus stand premises, creating an intimidating atmosphere, especially for women and students who use the road and public transport facilities regularly.
Ms. Patil said that the frequent presence of drunk persons at the bus stand had become a persistent problem, creating an atmosphere of fear among commuters. She alleged that parents were increasingly concerned about the safety of their children, while women faced harassment and inconvenience when passing through the area due to the nuisance caused by inebriated persons,” she alleged.
She claimed that the liquor shop was owned by Anand Hadapad, a Congress worker and a follower of Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil. Ms. Patil alleged that despite several complaints submitted to the authorities seeking the installation of CCTV cameras at the bus stand and nearby areas, officials had failed to act due to political interference.
Setting a deadline, Ms. Patil demanded that the liquor shop should be shifted from its current location and CCTV cameras installed within two days and warned that if the demands were not met, residents and activists would stage a protest in Karchkhed village on Wednesday to draw the attention of the authorities to the problem.
