The India-U.K FTA will significantly improve market access and will boost bilateral trade by around $34 billion annually, the British government said on Thursday (July 24, 2025), hours before formalising the landmark deal. The two Prime Ministers will also unveil an “U.K.-India Vision 2035” to take their partnership to new heights in a time of rapid global change.

The FTA, billed as the UK’s most economically significant bilateral trade deal since leaving the European Union, will be signed in the presence of PM Modi and his British counterpart Keir Starmer.

Besides a “significant and comprehensive” Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to be signed between Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Keir Starmer, an “ambitious” new U.K.-India Vision 2035 agreement will also be agreed upon between the leaders on Thursday (July 24, 2025) to mark a “step-change” in bilateral ties for the next decade, U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said.

In an interview with PTI to coincide with PM Modi’s visit to the U.K., the senior U.K. Cabinet Minister said the pact will build on the FTA to unlock new opportunities that strengthen defence cooperation and drive innovation between both economies.

Mr. Lammy said the U.K. is “thrilled” that PM Modi is visiting to sign the FTA, the most “significant” bilateral trade deal for Britain since leaving the European Union and the “most comprehensive” agreement India has ever signed.
