Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the holy shrine of Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, October 16, marking his first visit to the temple. He was ceremoniously received by temple priests and officials before offering prayers to Goddess Bhramaramba and Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Varla Devasthanam, one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage centres.

The Srisailam temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and simultaneously one of the fifty-two Shakti Peeths devoted to Goddess Parvati. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan during the rituals.

During the visit, Modi performed a Rudrabhishekam for Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy using the traditional Panchamritas. After completing the rituals, the Prime Minister visited the Sree Shivaji Spoorthi Kendra, a meditation and memorial centre that celebrates Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s spiritual bond with Srisailam.

Development works

The temple visit was part of Modi’s day-long tour of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, during which he will also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for a series of developmental projects worth Rs 13,430 crore across sectors including infrastructure, energy, and connectivity.
