Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (September 18, 2025) said he had a “warm conversation” with his Nepalese counterpart Sushila Karki.

“Had a warm conversation with Mrs. Sushila Karki, Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. Conveyed heartfelt condolences on the recent tragic loss of lives and reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for her efforts to restore peace and stability. Also, I extended warm greetings to her and the people of Nepal on their National Day tomorrow,” Mr. Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Ms. Karki took over as the head of interim government of Nepal last week, after violent anti-corruption protests by the country’s youth led to the resignation of K.P. Sharma Oli who was leading a coalition government.

On September 13, from a public gathering in Imphal, Mr. Modi congratulated Ms. Karki and said Nepal is a close friend and trusted partner of India.
