PM Narendra Modi mourns 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai' actor Satish Shah's demise, calls him a 'true legend'

Fans are left shocked as veteran actor Satish Shah passed away on Saturday, October 25 due to kidney failure. He passed away at 74, at his residence in Bandra East in the afternoon, according to Ramesh Kadatala, his trusted aide and personal assistant for over 30 years.

A close friend and collaborator added that the actor had undergone a kidney transplant three months ago. As the actor breathed his last, many of his friends from the industry mourned his loss and got emotional. PM Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the actor. He took to social media and wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satish Shah Ji. He will be remembered as a true legend of Indian entertainment. His effortless humour and iconic performances brought laughter into countless lives.

Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

Satish Shah's old friend Anupam Kher who worked with him in films like 'Hum Aapke Hai Koun...' broke down at the news of his demise. Kher is in Switzerland and he shared a video from there, expressing his emotions. He couldn't control his tears and hence wore sunglasses. "What is happening? In three days, we lost three amazing people. I have known all of them — Asrani, Piyush Pandey, and now Satish Shah.

My smile hides a lot of sorrow.

Every time I called him, I would be like, ‘Satish, mere Shah!’ and he would reply, ‘Mere Jahapana!’"Fighting back tears, Anupam said, “Aise thodi na hota hai? Aise nahi jana hota hai. Aapko koi haq nahi hai, aise achanak jaana. Koi haq nahi hai. Madhu (Shah), I feel really bad. A big hug to you. Shabd hi nahi hai Satish Shah ke loss ke liye. He was the most amazing actor, human being, and person.” Meanwhile, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra and many other celebs expressed grief as the actor passed away. Another close friend of the actor, Sachin Pilgaonkar revealed that he got a text from him just in the afternoon. "Satish and I would keep exchanging texts. In fact, I received a message from him at 12:56 pm today, which means he was absolutely fine even at that time. That I’m in shock is an understatement," he said. Satish Shah's funeral will take place on Sunday. His last rites will be performed at Pawan Hans cremation ground in Mumbai at around 12 pm today, October 26. Satish Shah is remembered for his iconic performance in 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' where he portrayed the corrupt municipal commissioner D’Mello. He was a part of other movies like 'Umraao Jaan', 'Hum Aapke Hai Koun...', 'Kal Ho Na Ho'. Since the last many years, he was a household name as Indravadhan Sarabhai from the television show 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai' which is now considered a cult.
