Police recover 31 kg silver-like jewellery from SUV in Patna

Patna: Police recovered 31.8 kg of silver-like jewellery from an SUV during a routine vehicle-checking drive under the Bypass police station area in Patna on Thursday morning. The seizure occurred around 10am when officers discovered 19 plastic boxes containing the material in the vehicle’s trunk.

The police was yet to verify authenticity of the metal.According to police, the SUV was being driven by Raju Kumar, a resident of Dundi Bazar, Nala Par, under Chowk police station, accompanied by Akash Kumar from Tedhi Ghat under Khajekala police station. Upon questioning, the duo revealed that they brought the jewellery from Patna to Biharsharif earlier in the day for selling it. Failing to find buyers, they were returning to Patna when intercepted by the police.According to their statements, the silver like items belonged to Santosh Kumar, a jewellery shop owner based in Bakarganj under Pirbahore police station. However, neither Raju nor Akash could produce any documentation to verify the ownership or legality of the consignment.As a result, police seized the entire 31.8 kg of silver-like jewellery, including the 19 boxes, and secured it at the Bypass police station. A formal report of the seizure has been forwarded to the Income Tax department, Patna, for further investigation and necessary action.
