Police seize 600 kg gutka in Tirupattur; four held

Four persons were arrested for possession of 600 kg of gutka in a house in Elaruvi village near Tirupattur town on Thursday. 

Police said the arrested persons were identified as K. Palani (44), house owner, and his accomplice V. Dharmaram (30), G. Jai Shankar (47) and Rakesh Ram (31). Rakesh Ram is a resident of Rajasthan while others belong to Tirupattur.

Initial inquiry revealed that during a routine vehicle search in Tirupattur town, a police team stopped a two-wheeler in which Rakesh Ram and Shankar were travelling. When the duo gave contradictory answers about the purpose of travel, police got suspicious and checked the vehicle.

Further inquiry revealed that they were heading to the house of Palani, who runs a grocery shop in town, to transfer gutka to the shop. Subsequently, police searched the house and seized gutka. A case was registered by Tirupattur Taluk police. Arrested persons were lodged in sub-jail in Tirupattur town and a probe is underway.
