Meghalaya Chief Minister Conard Sangma on Thursday informed that he was personally monitoring the case of a missing Indore couple. He also termed it an “unfortunate incident".
“In the recent few days, an unfortunate incident happened where a couple, a newlywed couple from the state of Madhya Pradesh, had come to Meghalaya, to the Sohra, Cherrapunji area, and we got reports that they went missing. It’s a very unfortunate situation," said CM Sangma.
The Meghalaya Police has deployed drones and sniffer dogs to search for the couple.
CM Conard also informed that the couple had rented a bike that was found on the same day they went missing.
“It looks like after leaving the bike there, they have gone off-road to hike. The area that they went to, both sides have hiking treks, they are very steep. Keeping in mind the monsoon season, the area is very slippery. The search area is very, very big. We are working very hard to trace them. We are hopeful that we will be able to find them," he said.

“Today, drones and special dog squads were pressed into service to search for the couple who went missing since Sunday evening," a senior home department official told PTI on Wednesday.
The incident came to light on May 24 when a scooter was found abandoned at a cafe along the road from Shillong to Sohra. A search operation was launched for the missing couple right after that.
“To date, we do not have verified reports confirming the couple’s movements, and their phone remained switched off," a senior police officer involved in the search operation told PTI on Wednesday.
