Poll picture becomes clearer in Kozhikode

With the Left Democratic Front (LDF) coming up with an almost complete list of candidates for Kozhikode Corporation and the Congress finalising its candidates for the district panchayat on Saturday (November 15), the layout for the forthcoming local body polls in Kozhikode district has become much clearer. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] took its sweet time to come up with the candidates for the Corporation, but managed to produce a complete list, unlike other fronts that had brought out partial lists. While the United Democratic Front (UDF) has announced the majority of its candidates, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to complete the candidate list for the Corporation as well as the district panchayat on Sunday (November 16).

The LDF has come up with a list of 73 candidates, with Mayoral candidate C.P. Musafar Ahamed contesting from Meenchanda division and Deputy Mayor candidate S. Jayasree continuing in her sitting seat, Kottooli. The other CPI(M) candidates are: Ramla P.K. (Elathur), E. Sunil Kumar (Chettikulam), V.P. Manoj (Eranhikkal), Amira Siraj (Puthur), T.S. Shimjith (Kunduparamba), M.M. Latha (Karuvisseri), Sindhu M.P. (Malapparamba), O. Sadasivan (Thadambattuthazham), U. Rajani (Vengeri), P. Bijulal (Poolakkadavu), P.B. Manju Anoop (Civil Station), Prameela Balagopal (Vellimadukunnu), P.K. Bindu (Moozhikkal), P. Ushadevi (Chelavoor), K.S. Prabheesh (Mayanad), Kavitha C. (Medical College South), Sheethu Shivesh (Medical College), Jiji Rameshan (Kovoor), P.K. Jijeesh (Nellikkode), N. Sanoop (Kudilthode), Prabhitha Rajeev (Parayancheri), C. Rekha (Puthiyara), Athira Vaisakh (Kuthiravattam), Ankathil Ajayakumar (Pottammal), M.C. Anil Kumar (Kommeri), Sujatha Koodathingal (Kuttiyilthazham), Vineetha M.P. (Methottuthazham), N.M. Rajeev (Beypore Port), Thottungal Rajani (Beypore ), Nimmi Prashanth (Marad), Suresh Kollarath (Naduvattam), Thasleema K. (Naduvattam East), P.P. Beeran Koya (Arakkinar), E. Anitha Kumar (Mathottam), N. Jayasheela (Payyanakkal), C.K. Zeenath (Nadinagar), Sugina (Chakkumkadavu), Mili D.L. (Thiruthiyad), M.N. Praveen (Eranhipalam), Laila Baiju (Thoppayil), T. Sujan (Chakkorathukulam), Shiji P.R. (West Hill), Shyni Vijayaprakash (Edakkad), P. Praseena (Puthiyangadi) and Nishitha Sivan (Puthiyappa).

The Communist Party of India (CPI) candidates are A.K. Sidharthan (Chevarambalam), Vijayan Alappurath (Mankavu), Sara Jafar (Palayam) and Ashika Teacher (Athanikkal).

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidates are Priya Adhikarathil (Azhchavattam), Naseema Shanavas (Mavoor Road), Thomas Mathew (Moonnalinkal) and Wilfred Raj (Nadakkavu), while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidates are Thushara S.M. (Mokavoor), Baby Vasan (Chevayur), and Abilash Shankar (Chalappuram).

Janata Dal (S) has two candidates, Noorudeen (Kinasseri) and Sheeba P.D. Puthiyedath (East Hill).

The Kerala Congress (M), Indian National League and Congress (S) have one candidate each in the form of Cyriac Mathew (Paroppadi), V.P. Raihanath (Kuttichira) and Bushra Jaffar (Vellayil). The LDF candidates for the three divisions are yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, the Congress has added six more names to the candidate list for the district panchayat polls, while seven were announced on Thursday (November 13).

The newly announced candidates are Rajesh Jose (Puthuppadi), Mili Mohan Kottarathil (Kodencheri), Seena Asokan (Kunnamangalam), K. Balamani (Narikkuni), P.C. Sheeba (Payyoli Angadi) and R. Shaheen (Chorode).
