Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada made elaborate arrangements for ‘poornahuti’, culmination of ‘Bhavani Deeskha Viramana’ (relinquishment of Bhavani Deeskha). The sacred ritual will be performed at 10:30 a.m. on Monday (December 15, 2025) at the Old Yagasala, located on the route leading to Shiva Temple.
A large number of devotees thronged the temple for the annual Bhavani ‘Deeksha Viramana’. By the morning of the fourth day, nearly 3.75 lakh Bhavani devotees had darshan of the Goddess and completed the ‘Deeksha Viramana’.
‘Deeksha Viramana’ is progressing smoothly with robust arrangements, said Endowments Commissioner M. Ramachandra Mohan. He expressed satisfaction over the facilities provided to devotees and noted that pilgrims have responded positively to the arrangements made by the authorities.
On the fourth day of the Bhavani Deeksha Viramana, Mr. Ramachandra Mohan conducted a surprise inspection at Indrakeeladri and reviewed the amenities being provided to Bhavani devotees. He commended the district administration, including the District Collector, Police Commissioner, and other district officials, for making effective and well-coordinated arrangements for the traditional ritual that has been observed since ancient times.
The Commissioner said that the entire process was proceeding in a smooth and successful manner. He estimated that another one lakh devotees may visit on the final day, and overall, 5.5 to 6 lakh Bhavani devotees are expected to participate in the ritual this year.
The Commissioner directed officials to continue providing services and facilities with the same spirit until the last day. He assured that adequate stocks of prasadam had been readied to meet the demand on the concluding day.
Interacting directly with devotees waiting in queue lines, Mr. Ramachandra Mohan enquired about the facilities being provided. Devotees expressed complete satisfaction with the arrangements made by the authorities. Later, the Commissioner, along with Devasthanam Executive Officer V.K. Seena Nayak, personally distributed buttermilk packets to devotees standing in the queues.
Meanwhile, Mr. Seena Nayak announced the launch of new initiatives to enhance pilgrim convenience during Bhavani Deeksha Samapthi–2025. As part of these measures, four battery-operated vehicles have been introduced for the benefit of devotees, especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families with small children. These vehicles were procured with the support of donors and contributions from banks such as City Union Bank, Canara Bank and Karur Vysya Bank, among others. The service has been receiving a positive response from devotees.
Two battery vehicles have been deployed on the Ghat Road and two in the Durganagar downhill area, enabling devotees, particularly those who have walked long distances, to reach the hilltop comfortably and together with their families. Devotees have expressed happiness over the initiative, stating that it has significantly reduced physical strain.
In another significant development, the Devasthanam recently reclaimed encroached temple land and converted it into a devotee service centre, which is now being utilised to provide various services during the Bhavani Deeksha Samapthi.
Devotees, especially elderly and physically challenged, have expressed their gratitude to the temple administration for introducing these people-friendly measures. The new facilities, they said, have brought considerable relief and enhanced their overall pilgrimage experience.
