On the occasion of the Janajateeya Gaurav Diwas 2025 (Tribal Pride Day) celebrations, which mark the closing ceremony of the Janajateeya Gaurav Varsham (Year of Tribal Pride) on November 15, 2025, KIRTADS and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs are jointly organising a variety of cultural programmes to reinterpret and popularise the heroic sagas of tribal leaders and freedom fighters who made immense sacrifices for the nation.
The initiatives titled ‘Canvas of Courage’, ‘From the Blood-Stained Soil’, and ‘Valour, Valour Supreme Valour’ are intended to address a critical omission in the historical record of the valiant struggles of local tribal communities — particularly prolonged resistances such as the Anglo-Kurichya War in Kerala.
‘Canvas of Courage’ is a poster-making competition for the Birsa Munda Poster Award. Any historical episode or hero from the Indian tribal freedom struggle can be the subject, including Birsa Munda and Kerala’s own tribal freedom fighters like Thalakkara Chandu, Choyimoola Machan, Kurichya-Kuruma leaders, and Kallalan Vaidyar. The competition is open to school and college students, besides the public and artists. The entries should be in A3 size and should visually represent the courage and heritage of tribal heroes.
‘Valour, Valour Supreme Valour’ is a painting competition for the Kallalan Vaidyar Painting Award. The tribal warriors of the country shall be represented in such a way that their resistance and pride are expressed. Students and artists can take part, and the entries should be in A3 format.
‘From the Blood-Stained Soil’ is a poetry competition for the Thalakkara Chandu Poetry Award. The entries shall be on the theme of tribal freedom struggles or other tribal social issues. Students, the public, and writers shall take part.
The completed entries shall be sent before midnight on November 13 to [email protected]. The name of the award being submitted for must be clearly stated in the subject line of the email. For details, contact 94460-88896.
