President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday greeted citizens on the occasion of Chhath Puja, highlighting the festival’s message of unity, cooperation, and collective participation in society.
In her message, she said devotees offer ‘arghya’ to the Sun during the four-day festival, expressing gratitude to nature.
“On this festival, we express our gratitude to nature. We worship the rivers and ponds, and pray for the well-being of our families. This festival also conveys a message of cleanliness and environment conservation," she added.
President Murmu extended her best wishes to all citizens, praying for their happiness and prosperity. Chhath Puja, dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, will conclude on October 28.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended greetings, calling Chhath Puja a reflection of the “deep unity" between culture, nature, and society.
Speaking in the 127th episode of Mann Ki Baat, he said devotees from all sections of society gather at ghats, which he described as the “most beautiful" example of India’s social harmony.
“All of us celebrated Diwali a few days ago, and now a large number of people are busy with Chhath Puja. Thekuas are being made at homes. Ghats are being decorated. The way women devotees prepare for the Chhath is an inspiration. Mahaparva of Chhath is a reflection of the deep unity between culture, nature, and society. Every section of society comes together at the Chhath ghats. This sight is the most beautiful example of India’s social unity," he said.
The Prime Minister noted the festive preparations, including making the traditional thekuas and decorating ghats, and urged everyone to participate in the celebrations.
“Wherever you are in the world, if you have a chance, try to participate in Chhath Puja. I bow down to Chhathi Maiya. I extend my greetings to the countrymen on the occasion of Chhath, especially to the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Purvanchal," he added.
