Promising bail for her husband, Army sepoy rapes woman in Kolkata

An Indian Army personnel has been arrested by Kolkata Police for allegedly raping and threatening a housewife under the pretext of helping her husband, who is in jail in another case, get bail.

The accused, Monibur Rahman, 34, introduced himself as an Indian Army personnel and promised to use his influence to help her husband get bail, the police told India Today TV.

Monibur, then, allegedly raped the housewife in a luxury hotel located in Kolkata's Park Street area.

The accused started living in with the housewife forcefully, warning her that he would leak her nude pictures and make them viral, the FIR stated. The threat was made back in 2024.

A case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered under Sections 64(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the survivor's complaint.

During the course of the investigation, Monibur, who is serving as a sepoy in the Indian Army, was arrested by the Kolkata Police.
