On the eve of World Environment Day, Grammy jury member and percussionist Pt Pradyut Mukherjee launched a unique tree plantation initiative at the Santiniketan home of Rabindra Sangeet legend Kanika Bandyopadhyay.
Each tree was named after an Indian raga, blending ecology with classical music. A Gulancha tree named Desh was planted in memory of Operation Sindoor martyrs, a Palash tree named Bahar was dedicated to residents of Nabina and Khanika Home, and an Amaltas tree named Lalit honoured the cultural legacy of Santiniketan. “This is my way of giving back to the earth that gives us life,” said Mukherjee, who also celebrates his birthday on June 5. The event was held in collaboration with Elmhurst Institute and Mohar Bithika Angan, with participation from Priyam Mukherjee, Ritapa Bhattacharya, and others.
