Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally sought permission to meet its founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently lodged in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. The party has written to the jail administration requesting a meeting on Tuesday, December 16, citing directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding access to the leader.

The letter has been authored by PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, who urged the authorities to allow a party delegation to meet Imran Khan in accordance with legal provisions and court guidelines. PTI leaders have repeatedly raised concerns over restricted access to Khan, arguing that meetings with party representatives are essential for organisational matters as well as for conveying legal and political developments.

However, senior sources within the Adiala Jail administration have made it clear that no political meetings will be permitted with Imran Khan at this stage. According to a top jail official, while meetings with family members and lawyers are allowed as per rules, political engagements inside the prison are not authorised.

Jail authorities have also dismissed speculation regarding Khan’s health and detention conditions. A senior Adiala Jail source stated that Imran Khan is “completely fine and fit" and is being provided all facilities strictly in line with the jail manual. The official clarified that the former prime minister is housed in a separate barrack but is not being kept in solitary confinement, countering claims made by PTI leaders in recent weeks.

The source further revealed that Imran Khan underwent his routine fortnightly medical examination on Monday, and all medical reports were found to be normal. Doctors, however, have advised him to take additional rest due to the prevailing dry and harsh weather conditions, which can pose health risks during the winter season.

According to jail records, the last approved meeting with Imran Khan took place on December 2, when his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, was allowed to see him. Since then, no meetings have been permitted, and it has now been 14 days without any personal interaction, including with close family members.

PTI has consistently maintained that restricting meetings violates both legal norms and humanitarian considerations, especially given Khan’s stature as a former prime minister. The party is expected to approach the courts again if permission for the requested meeting is denied.

Meanwhile, jail authorities maintain that all actions are being taken within the ambit of the law, and that Imran Khan’s security, health, and basic rights remain fully protected during his incarceration.
