NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have suspended a traffic head constable after a video showing him scuffling with a cab driver near the New Delhi Railway Station went viral on social media.According to sources, the policeman was posted with the Central Range of the Delhi Traffic Police.
In the video, he is seen engaging slapping, punching and hitting with the cab driver inside the latter’s vehicle.
The footage was reportedly recorded by a bystander and later circulated widely online.
Sources said the incident took place a few days ago when the cab driver had parked his vehicle near the New Delhi Railway Station at a location where construction work was underway. Police received a complaint that the parked vehicle was causing an obstruction and disrupting both the ongoing construction activity and traffic movement in the area.
“When the traffic head constable approached the driver and asked him to move the cab, the driver allegedly refused and slapped the cop, which led to the scuffle,” the source said.Following the circulation of the video and a preliminary inquiry into the incident, Delhi Police suspended the head constable pending further investigation.
