BATHINDA: A quarrel between two brothers over alleged drug use turned fatal at Kubbe village in Punjab's Barnala district late on Tuesday. The elder brother, Gurdeep Singh, attacked his younger brother, 32-year-old Harjit Singh, with a sharp-edged weapon.
Harjit sustained serious injuries and later died.Both brothers were vegetable farmers and managed a small landholding in nearby Bugra village following the death of their father. Villagers said Gurdeep often tried to stop Harjit from taking drugs.According to sources, Harjit was in the fields with his friend, Sandeep Singh, when Gurdeep arrived and a quarrel broke out. Gurdeep reportedly attacked both Harjit and Sandeep. While Sandeep suffered minor injuries, Harjit’s wounds proved fatal.Village Sarpanch Hardev Singh said the brothers frequently quarrelled over accusations of drug use.Barnala DSP Harwinder Singh confirmed that Harjit Singh was killed in a violent clash and that a murder case has been registered against Gurdeep Singh. Police are currently working to arrest him.
